How to take photos that will work well on canvas
How do I take a photograph that looks good on canvas It is a popular product these days, for presents to hand on the wall, office artworks or just for personal pleasure, photographs on canvas are high quality, long lasting pieces of art that will enhance any wall. So what makes a good canvas photo? There are a few things to consider when taking a photo for canvas (or using an existing one): 1. The size of the photo (digital cameras) - or how many megapixels are needed to make a good canvas picture. Generally this depends on the size of the final product that you want to print. 3 megapixels is a good start this will print up to 18" x 12". 6 megapixels will print to 30" x 20" and 10 megapixels to 42" x 28". 2. Crisp sharp focus. It is amazing how many photographs I get sent with the question "Can you just put the faces into focus." The answer is always no. Remember the bigger the canvas, the more pronouced will be any errors. 3. Leave a margin. Canvases look best with the image wrapped around the frame so that they appear as a seamless 3D piece of artwork. If the subject of your picture fills the frame, some of the subject is going to wrap around too. Try and frame images of people in the centre of the frame, with slightly more space around them than you would normally do - this leaves a much better finish. (With landscapes the problem does not occur as the wrap around is all part of the appeal of the canvas.) 4. Don't be afraid to be bold! Big bright bold pictures often work much better on canvas as they seem to leap off the wall. 5. think laterally. Wide angles or a series of pictures often create a stunning effect on canvas - if you have a wonderful scene in front of you but it takes three pictures side by side to capture all the detail - do it a set of three canvases would look incredible hung nect to each other on the wall.
